If you're a listener of my podcast, Girls Night, or if you've been here in our little corner of the internet for a while now, you know that I'm such a believer that life is better, easier, and absolutely more fun when we walk through it together instead of on our own.

That's the heartbeat behind every single thing that I do. And for years, I've been trying to find a way to say that, to show that, a way to bottle that idea up so we could give it to a friend — letting her know that she's not alone, that we're in her corner, that we're in this together.

And then this last year, something huge happened in my life...

Almost exactly one year ago, I had my twins: Annie & Quinn.

And as I fell in love with these perfect, beautiful, wonderful little darlings, I also started to fall in love with the "&" symbol. We use it all the time when talking about the girls: Q&A, A&Q. It's this elegant, timeless, swirly symbol that connects them, and I just love it.

Over the last year, as the "&" has connected the littlest girls in my life, I realized that it's the symbol I've been looking for all along.

The "&" connects us. It's like the typography version of linking arms. No matter how similar we are, no matter how different we are, when you put us all together and link us with an "&," we're no longer alone. It's not just you or me, it's you & me. We're connected. We're in this together now.

Whenever you see the “&" may it remind you that:

You’re not alone in what you’re going through
& you don’t have to go through any of life alone.

I don't know if this ever happens to you, but it definitely does for me: I'll be really struggling with something and I'll start to wonder if there's something wrong with me for struggling the way I am. I'll look around and, of course, everyone else seems to have it all together and that makes me feel even worse. Because then, not only am I going through something hard, but I also feel ashamed of my struggle, which leaves me feeling even more isolated than ever.

But the thing that has helped me more than anything else when I'm struggling is getting to hear that I'm not alone.

Hearing that someone else has been there, has struggled the way that I'm struggling, it changes everything. It shows me that how I feel is valid, it's real, and that I'm not crazy, or stupid, or weak for feeling this way.

But it's more than that.

To know someone that has struggled the way that I am and has made it to the other side, it brings me the hope I need to keep moving. I may not be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but knowing that she has seen it helps me believe that it'll be there waiting for me too. And that makes all the difference.

That's the heart behind the "&." I love this symbol so much. I love what it represents both in my little family and for us, as a community, in our little corner of the internet.

And so friends, whenever you see this symbol, may it remind you that:

You’re not alone in what you’re going through & you don’t have to go through any of life alone.

When you make a purchase in the SMW shop, a portion of the proceeds go to purchasing diapers for families in need.

What is diaper poverty?

1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers. In fact, many parents have to choose between food and diapers.

Without diapers, parents often resort to things like plastic bags, toilet paper, and paper towels as make-shift diapers. But without proper diapers, babies cannot go to childcare or participate in early childhood education.

Without this much-needed childcare, many parents cannot go to work or school. This causes homes with more tension, less nurturing, and possible abuse.

Not only that, but an uncomfortable baby cries more, which can lead to mistreatment and neglect.

We're partnering with Nashville Diaper Connection to ensure that every baby in Davidson County has enough diapers to stay clean, dry and healthy.
